Privacy

Bruce Wine reads a wine list and recommends one bottle. This describes exactly what leaves your phone, what is kept, and for how long.

Your photographs never leave your device

When you photograph a wine list, the image is read on your phone using Apple's on-device text recognition. Only the recognised text is sent to our server. The photograph itself is never transmitted, never uploaded, and never stored by us — there is no copy of it to request, retain, or lose.

Location metadata is stripped from images the app handles, and the app does not request access to your photo library or your location.

What is sent, and what is kept

A device identifier. On first launch the app generates a random identifier and stores it in your device's keychain. It is not linked to your name, your email, your Apple Account, or any advertising identifier, and it does not sync between your devices. It is sent with each request so your scan balance can be found, and it is kept until you ask us to delete it — because a balance you paid for has to survive reinstalling the app.

Purchase history. When you buy scans, Apple processes the payment and we record that the purchase happened and how many scans it granted. Payment details never reach us. RevenueCat, Inc. processes purchase records on our behalf.

The text read from the list, for as long as it takes to answer, plus thirty minutes so that "Pick another" does not cost a second scan. Then it is deleted.

Diagnostics, when a shelf photograph is read: how many lines were found and how many contained recognisable wine words. Counts only — no recognised text, and only the first characters of the device identifier. Deleted after fourteen days.

A DeviceCheck token, generated by your device and sent to Apple to confirm the request comes from a real Apple device. We do not receive anything about you from Apple in return.

What we never collect

No name, email address, account, contacts, location, health data, browsing history, or advertising identifier. We do not track you across apps or websites, we do not use analytics or advertising SDKs, and we do not sell or share data with data brokers.

Deleting your data

Write to us and we will delete the identifier and everything held against it. Any unused scans go with it, so tell us if you would rather they were moved to a new install first.

Children

Bruce Wine is about wine and is not directed at children.
